It’s amazing to think that such a strange looking device could be the cause for so many intense, real orgasms that women never dared to believe that they could achieve. David L. Lampert is the inventor of this sexual aid - he first had the idea in the 1970s, but it was not until 1983 that the Sybian began to take shape. After being rebuked by an engineer and specialists in 79, he presented the idea to a lady physician who thought that the idea had merit. They made a journey in the summer of 83 – for two weeks traveling around the midwest, seeking out those that had knowledge of sexual devices. He was attempting to determine whether anything like the Sybian had been tried before. After visiting pretty much all of the adult bookstores, retailers, and wholesales around, he was happy to see that his idea was completely original.

Now came the hard part – actually getting started on crafting the Sybian. The next year and a half were spent researching the sex research and counseling field, as well as trying to find people with the proper expertise to help them. In 1985, they finally found a machine shop that didn’t have a stick up their ass, and reasoned that ‘parts are parts’.

The first prototype was born – made out of sheet metal and a wooden frame. Vibration was produced by putting a regular hand vibrator up through an opening – a far cry from the polished sexual machine that the sybian is today, but at long last the proof of concept was finally out there.

The second protoype had the same width and height as the Sybian today, but it was 24 inches long and weighed in at 51 pounds. Instead of a seperate remote, the speed controls were built into the unit itself, and it also had handles to hold onto. It was a bit of a pain at first for the vibration to be integrated successfully in this prototype, but a lot of tweaking and changes solved this problem. Subsequent prototypes didn’t have to have many changes – just little adjustments.

For the four years of the Sybian’s creation, it was called the Master Better – obviously this name had to go, and that’s when the sybian finally became, well, the Sybian. The name is derived from Sybaris, which was the name of an ancient Greek city commonly associated with luxurious living. A fitting name indeed!
